Don’t Let Your Future Be Destroyed During The Holidays
According to a 2015 article in Men’s Health, San Antonio ranks 17th in the nation of DUI related deaths and 27th in DUI arrests. It only takes a second to make a bad decision. This holiday weekend, think before you drink. Former Assistant District Attorney and Bexar County Judge Carlo Key wants to remind people of the following:
- There are no longer weekends dedicated to ‘No Refusal’ because every day is ‘No Refusal.’
This means that if an individual is pulled over and refuses to do a field sobriety test, a judge is on stand by to sign a warrant and a blood draw will happen. While everyone has a right to refuse a field sobriety test, understand it means you will be automatically arrested and your blood will be taken without your consent. However, at any point you can ask for legal counsel.
- Arrange for a designated driver.
Ride-share companies are back in business in San Antonio, but don’t forget about taxis and other companies like AAA, who offer rides home. While designating a family member or friend can also be effective, it’s important that the designated driver understands the importance of not drinking.
It’s great to enjoy the holidays with family and friends, just do so responsibly or make plans to have someone sober drive. If you’re arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, your license will be confiscated and you’ll have 15 days to request a formal hearing to avoid your license being suspended up to two years.
This holiday season, if you do find yourself in trouble with the law seek legal counsel immediately. Don’t let a minor mistake have a major impact on the rest of your life.
